Over the past few days, I’ve been quietly doing a lot of research on various solopreneurs online…
I could clearly see they have an audience…
But they’re still not making money with it.
And worse, some of them are even working more than a 9-to-5, creating content.
The content creation hamster wheel is praised as the “holy grail”
But then it hit me…
Have you ever looked at your followers and thought:
“I should be earning more than this…”
Or your audience is too small, you don’t even know what you could be earning from it?
Well, this is probably why and what to do about it.
Because this is where it gets frustrating is when;
- You’re posting consistently
- Getting random views
- Maybe even growing
But when it comes to: sales, clients, or real income… NADA!
There’s a disconnect.
People watch…
But they don’t buy.
And if you’re a solitary solopreneur…
This hits even harder.
Because you’re not chasing vanity metrics.
You’re trying to build something real.
Not just attention…
But REAL life-changing income.
Therefore, I write this as clearly and straightforwardly as possible.
Followers don’t pay you. It might sound harsh, but it’s the truth.
Trust does.
Why do I know?
Because my subscriber base expresses themselves openly with me.

The type of trust that people feel compelled to share their most inner feelings
And most audiences…
Don’t trust you enough to buy.
Not because you’re doing something wrong…
But because you’re missing that layer.
Because attention and trust are not the same thing.
Attention is like:
fast
shallow
and temporary
Think of it like the crappy pop music that is produced nowadays (almost like fast fashion) vs the true-story-based songs that were produced back in the 70s,80s and 90’s.
Which completely transmits to you what Trust really is:
slow
deep
and cumulative
And if you only build attention…
You’ll always struggle to monetize it.
Thus, in my research over the past days,
I came to find out what most creators are missing:
The Trust Ladder
People don’t go from:
Watching your content to buying from you in one step.
They move through stages.
Somewhat like what you may be used to doing before buying a phone or so, you see it, research it, watch some reviews, and then look for ways to get it, etc etc, right?!
In a similar manner, your audience interacts with your online presence.
Let me give you the overview…
THE TRUST LADDER
Step 1 — Awareness
They discover you.
A reel.
A post.
A video.
A recommendation.
They think:
“This looks interesting.”
But there’s no commitment yet.
(They don’t know enough to consider your perspective).
Step 2 — Resonance
Now they start to relate.
“This feels like me.”
“He gets it.”
“We have things in common”
This is where attention becomes connection.
(They feel heard, seen, and/or understood by what you produce or share.)
Step 3 — Trust
This is the missing layer for most solopreneurs.
They don’t just like your content…
They trust your thinking.
Your consistency.
Your perspective.
Your standards.
This doesn’t happen in one post.
It happens over time.
(Consistently relating to them differently creates a deeper bond).
Step 4 — Decision
Only now…
Does someone consider buying.
Not because you convinced them.
But because they already believe in YOU
(the person behind the “brand”).

They’ll tell themselves…
“This person can help me.”
Most solopreneurs try to jump from: Attention → sale because the gurus teach this as the core focus, and they end up skipping everything in between.
That’s why their audience doesn’t convert, and this can ultimately damage your own reputation, as people will see you’re all about “business” and not really interested in them as a person.
An example I can give you is this;
Someone watches your video…
And then disappears.
Why?
Because there’s no environment for trust.
No depth.
No continuity.
No reason to stay.
And what you end up seeing is…
A content creator builds their audience.
An operator-minded solopreneur builds trust systems.
Where content leads somewhere.
Where attention compounds.
Where relationships deepen over time.
So before you think… “but Renald i need money now (or by yesterday!)”
Just ask yourself…
Do you buy stuff online just seeing it once? No, right?! Why?…
Because Trust takes longer.
But it’s what makes income predictable.
Because once someone trusts you…
You don’t need to convince them again.
Thus, this should be your game plan for 2026/2027:
Stop chasing followers…
Focus on building systems to filter people who are ready to buy.
Ignore jumping on the entertainment content hamster wheel…
Focus on monetizing your one-person business with AI as an operator does.
So if your audience isn’t converting…
It’s not because you need more people.
It’s because the people you already have don’t trust you enough yet.

PS. If you might have checked out my socials lately, I’ve been super quiet. Not posting anything at all, not even on YouTube. This doesn’t mean I won’t in the near future, but…the main reason is that my goal has always been the same: build a system that self-funds itself, not the other way around; therefore, if you’re also of the same thinking and want to see how I build mine, stay tuned for my next email. If waiting for the next email is not on your to-do list, just reply “PRIORITY” and I’ll send you details.
