CREATING A NICHE OF YOU
The #1 reason why solopreneurs never get traction with their online business is they arenāt focused on a specific customer.
Instead, they are wildly unfocused.
I want to teach you 3 different methods to āniche downā and target a specific audience with a specific problem.
A problem you can solve.ā
Keep in mind the goal of all of this is to figure out your own personal skills, desire, and vision for yourself and target a similar audience.
Then weāll go set up your content distribution system.
Method 1: Choosing A Sub-Niche By The Audience
A sub-niche is a smaller subsection of a broad audience. Generally, it works like this:
Broad audience ā niche ā sub-niche
You can apply this formula to the audience youāre looking to attract.
For example, letās say you're a freelancer doing āsocial media managementā for random entrepreneurs/businesses on Fiverr and looking to build a one-person online business.
There are TWO avenues you can capitalize here from, DEPENDING on what you feel is your strength and or desire.
#1 - Rather than targeting entrepreneurs (broad audience), or freelancers (niche), you could focus specifically on social media management freelancers for SPECIFIC AVATAR businesses (sub-niche).
OR,
#2 - You could target as the sub-niche of SPECIFIC AVATAR ānewbieā freelancer starting their career as social media management specialists
Based on the example above, we are assuming you have deep knowledge of either;
The SPECIFIC AVATAR of businesses or
The SPECIFIC AVATAR of ānewbieā social media management specialists
and can speak intelligently about their situation in detail so as to resonate with the audience and truly be an inspiration because of your uniqueness and genuineness.
Each avatar has its own pains, problems, fears, desires, goals, difficulties, and or vision for what their future holds.
Method 2: Choosing A Sub-Niche By Product Or Service
You can also apply this to the product or service that you are creating to arrive at your audience.
Instead of your product being a book (broad product), or a cookbook (niche), you could focus specifically on creating a vegan dessert cookbook (sub-niche).
OR,
Rather than offering a generic service such as coaching (broad service), or leadership coaching (niche), you could focus specifically on leadership coaching for female entrepreneurs (sub-niche).
The result?
Once you narrow down to a sub-niche, you are more likely to narrow your research and find a winning offer that matches your desired audience that has the same challenges, and therefore the same wants and needs.
If you need some resources where to research your target audience's products or service ideas of what to promote to generate sales.
Check out the complete guide and the Research Page here
After this, now what?
Well, once youāve narrowed it down to your sub-niche audience, you can start learning more about them.
Where do they hang out online?
What jargon and language do they use?
What podcasts and YouTube channels do they watch?
Who is already serving this audience i.e. who are your competitors?
Method 3: Creating Your Own "Niche Of You"
The most compelling creators online are, what I call, a āniche of youā.
Other experts like Justin Welsh refer to this as the niche of one.
A niche of you is a unique combination of skills and interests rolled into one idea and then distributed through highly creative or technical content that clearly paints a unique perspective on a certain subject or topic.
When you do this well, you own a micro-niche. (a segment of the sub-niche market)
You become the category creator. The best in the show. The only one. You.
And you can deliver products and services that people will pay for.
If you want to do this well, you need to understand the formula and the six-pillar system behind a niche of you.

So, Letās break them down and then put them back together in the hopes that it helps you become a more compelling creator.
Pillar 1 - Skills
Most skills, by themselves, are not unique.
Lots of people can write, speak English, create graphics, build websites, or do some type of creative work.
Too often, people make the mistake of choosing a skill when deciding to create online.
Iām a writer, so Iāll write.
Iām a painter, so Iāll paint.
I know how to do X, so Iāll teach people how to do X. You get the point.
The difficulty arises when the inevitable question comes up:
āWhat do I write about today?ā
āWhat do I paint today?"
āWhat do I teach today?ā
and even if you are able to answer these question elaborately, the thing that people still look for is depth and perspective.
Thus if you somehow hit a creative block, most people either quit creating or create something very mediocre putting little thought into it.
These are two poor outcomes that most donāt know how to overcome because they have not done any research or set up any system in place.
This is where the introduction of interests into the equation and see what happens.
Pillar #2 - Interests
Please understand that this guide is not meant to be cliche;
āChase your dreams!ā.
āDo something you love and youāll never work a day in your life!ā
That's all nonsense.
But, interests are important. They keep us...wellā¦interested.
The key here is to be aware and capable of articulating how one unique element that interests you influences the other things you do.
Example: Maybe you're skilled at graphic design and building websites and youāre extremely well-versed in using the Instagram platform. Maybe you understand animation and your hobby is creating banners or posts.
When you read those sentences, nothing unique or compelling really jumps out. So, now what do you do?
Letās put them together to start formulating an interesting idea.
Pillar #3 - Idea
The idea pillar of a niche of you is where most people get it wrong. They let a lack of creativity keep them from building something unique.
For example, weāve all had ideas before, but they end up as unfinished blog posts, abandoned podcasts, or dwindling YouTube channels.
Thatās because the creation must be forced. Youāre starting from a blank canvas every morning. Weāre back to the same old questions:
āWhat do I write about today?ā
āWhat do I paint today?"
āWhat do I teach today?ā
In a niche of you, you create an idea based on inspiration and then learn how to say it, do it, or package it 1,000+ different ways based on your perspective/insights.
Letās use our examples from above.
Example #1: Youāre a graphic designer and your interest is in social media management.
Based on research and what people want,ā¦
Unique idea: Use your graphic design skills/knowledge to project the value of attracting high-ticket clients with premium social or web designs in each of your tweets/posts/reels.

Another example might be;
Example #2: Youāre a copywriter freelancer and your interest is in sales.
Based on research and what people want,ā¦
Unique idea: Use your writing skills/knowledge to project the value of converting followers into leads with copywriting in each of your tweets/posts/reels.
Now, you could easily argue that these ideas and examples are not interesting, but youād be missing the point here.
This is one single idea that can be produced and reproduced 1000x over in various perspectives, scenarios, or examples across many markets.
The mental block of āWhat do I do today?ā is now eliminated.
These ideas, when shared broadly through proper distribution, attract a natural audience of interested people.
Pillar #4 + #5 - Distribution & Audience
In order for people to discover your unique and interesting idea, they have to be able to find it.
This is why distribution on ONE PLATFORM is important as this helps you understand what your CORE AUDIENCE is engaging with the most and that specific piece you spread throughout various other platforms.
Your audience growth is an outcome of good distribution.
Having a niche of you gives you an advantage because youāve increased the number of places you can distribute to attract the RIGHT person to you.
For example, if youāre a graphics design enthusiast loving everything design, you can distribute on sites, social pages, and or forums centered around designs.
Iād recommend focusing on the following system:
- Personal Blog or Newsletter: a place where your content can live forever and can be a catch-all for email subscribers. (this is a full in-depth version)
- Social Media: pick one channel and master it. Donāt try to be a social media hero from the start. (these are various snippets)
- Industry Sites: every skill and interest has industry sites. For example, I like to talk about building online, so I can find great channels on IndieHackers. (this can vary depending on the platform)
- Private Communities: join private communities centered around your skills or interests. (this can vary depending on the platform)
By distributing routinely, a natural audience will grow.
Remember, you donāt pick your audience, they pick you. You simply set up a system where more people are likely to find you and follow you.
Hereās an overview of the process:

If youāre a designer/marketing person, you will naturally attract an audience of people who love designs, premium aesthetics, and marketing.
But, youāre also likely to attract other people who have an interest in visuals, design trends, marketing, sales, and so on.
Pillar #6 - Winning Product
Now comes the easiest part. Asking and listening for DATA.
With an audience built around a specific, unique idea, you can simply start to ask them what would be most helpful, and listen to their answers.
These answers give you INSIGHTS into how your audience finds you, sees you, and consumes your information, thus helping you improve while you grow.
Itās amazing how many people skip this critical step.
Ask on social or send out a survey via email.
What would they like to learn?
What would they be happy to spend some money on?
Hereās an example of how I create my process:
New subscribers ā survey ā access to newsletters
You can go through it yourself here (see the image below)
Why is this helpful?
Well, some people might enjoy a monthly premium plan subscription where they can learn by getting video training and pdfs.
Others might enjoy a digital in-depth course teaching them a specific method for a specific outcome, link this: The Instagram Creators Course š
Others might want a 1:1 strategy session call where you apply your formula to bottles in their collection together,
While some would likely just want to purchase a sponsorship service, without having to do all themselves.
All of this can be placed on a value ladder that people can move up over time:

Summary
In summary, the internet is getting crowded.
Picking your passion and then trying to write or record from scratch each day can be a very daunting task.
The most compelling creators you see online have a system. Nobody is out here winging it, so you shouldnāt either!
So, to get started, do the following:
Step 1: Pick something you excel at.
Step 2: Choose something you're interested in.
Step 3: Combine them.
Step 4: Create a distribution system.
Step 5: Allow an audience to form.
Step 6: Ask them what they need/want.
That's all for my guide to create a profitable niche of you.
I'll be updating this throughout the coming months.
Thanks for reading.
Btw, If you are ready to make your first $1000 in the following weeks or months?
You only need 10x sales at $99 each a month or 2.5x sales every week.
If your first offer is $250 then you only need 4x offers sold to make $1K.
Sounds unrealistic?
Hereās the breakdown tweet from a 30 thousand foot high viewā¦
My $100K a year Twitter goal
$100K/12 = $8.333 a month
$8.333/30 = $277 a day
letās say you shoot for 3 sales a day
$277/3 = $92.6 per sale
What can you sell more than 3x a day at $92.6?
Lots of things. Need idea?
